What is Bytek Tag?

Bytek Tag is a first-party identity and conversion tracking system. It captures identity signals (hashed email, phone, click IDs) from your website and distributes them to advertising platforms — automatically, in real time, with full privacy compliance.

Why not just use Google Tag Manager?

GTM is a general-purpose tag container. It's great for loading scripts, but it doesn't understand identity. Bytek Tag solves specific problems GTM can't:

  • First-party identity capture — Bytek Tag auto-detects emails in forms, URL parameters, and dataLayer pushes, hashes them (SHA-256), and persists them across sessions. GTM has no concept of identity.
  • Cross-platform identity distribution — One captured email hash automatically feeds Google Ads Enhanced Conversions, Meta Advanced Matching, TikTok identity, LinkedIn, and Microsoft UET. In GTM, you'd configure each vendor separately.
  • First-party cookies — With a custom CNAME hostname (e.g. edge.yourdomain.com), Bytek Tag bypasses Safari ITP's 7-day cookie limit. GTM cookies are third-party and get wiped.
  • Click ID persistence — gclid, fbclid, ttclid, etc. are automatically captured from URLs, stored in first-party cookies, and distributed to all platforms. In GTM, you manage each one manually.
  • Event stream — Every event flows to BigQuery/Postgres for analysis. GTM doesn't have a data warehouse export.

How Bytek Tag works with GTM

They complement each other. Bytek Tag handles identity and conversion tracking. GTM handles everything else (analytics, chat widgets, CMP, etc.).

Typical setup: 1. Install Bytek Tag snippet via a GTM Custom HTML tag (All Pages trigger) 2. Bytek Tag captures identity and fires conversion pixels automatically 3. GTM continues to manage non-conversion tags (analytics, remarketing, CMP, chat) 4. Bytek Tag exports identity data to GTM's dataLayer (bp_identity, bp_event) so your existing GTM tags can use it

You can also trigger Bytek Tag from GTM: create a GTM tag that calls bp('event', 'purchase', { value: 149.99 }) and Bytek Tag fires all linked conversion tags with identity attached.
